About Rony M. Barsoum, Esq.
Rony M. Barsoum has been dedicated to the practice of workers’ compensation law since graduating from law school in 2003. He began his career representing insurance companies and employers in workers’ compensation defense but soon realized his passion was advocating for injured workers. Witnessing firsthand how many injured employees were treated by insurance carriers motivated him to shift his practice exclusively to representing applicants.
A trial lawyer in two courtrooms
Rony Barsoum is a trial lawyer. He tries workers’ compensation cases before Workers’ Compensation Judges and the Appeals Board, and he tries civil personal injury cases in California courts.
That matters because a serious workplace injury often has two cases inside it. Workers’ compensation pays for medical care and lost wages, but it does not pay for pain and suffering. When someone other than the employer caused the injury, such as a careless driver, a negligent property owner or the maker of a defective machine, the worker may also have a personal injury claim against that party, where the full range of damages is available.
Because Rony tries both kinds of cases, he looks at both from the first day. He builds them together and makes sure a step in one does not cost the client in the other, including how the workers’ compensation insurer’s lien is handled when the injury case resolves. Insurance companies weigh the risk of trial when they put a value on a claim, so Rony prepares every case as if it will be tried, in either courtroom.
